The Quando Vineyards and Winery is situated between Robertson and Bonnievale, in the picturesque Robertson Valley, 150kms east of Cape Town. Here the Langeberg and Riviersonderend Mountains encompass the valley, and the Breede River runs through it.
Since 2001 they have fulfilled their desire to produce their own Sauvignon Blanc under the Quando label. “Friends had been asking us for years ‘when’ we would make our own wine”, commented Fanus. “When we finally did, we liked the quirkiness of the Latin allusion for the name after the famous song”.
The grapes for the Quando Sauvignon Blanc hails from a single vineyard on our farm rooted in four meter deep rich alluvial strata exposed by a receding meander of the Breede River. These deep rich alluvial Table mountain sandstone deposits ensure excellent drainage and the water retention is perfect for Sauvignon blanc not letting the vines go into stress during ripening and losing its flavours.
Five different harvests were executed over a period of six weeks to capture different flavour spectrums from the vineyard and build in complexity. All the different parcels were vinified separately with inoculated yeast and kept on its gross lees for 3 months at low temperatures, batonaged every week.
Quando Wines delivers an enigmatic Sauvignon Blanc with a deliciously complex palate. Exotic aromas of white peach, frangipani and passion fruit perform beautifully on the nose. While the palate positions ripe tropical fruit notes against a lively edge of acidity that is backed by wonderful flinty minerality. Green fruit flavours dominate the palate and provide juicy intensity to this mouth-watering delight. The Quando Sauvignon Blanc is a delightful, character-driven wine with an elegantly layered tropical fruit profile. Palate-pleasing to the last sip.
