Bodegas y Viñedos Viña Mayor welcomes the virtues of the Ribera de Duero and does so in the best location: the so-called ‘Golden Mile’, the most prestigious area of the denomination. Their history begins in 1986 being one of the first wineries to be part of the D.O.
As one of the first wineries in the Ribera del Duero, they are characterised by an innovative vocation with deep roots in tradition. Always looking for the maximum expression of austere beauty. They produce wines of contemporary spirit with a range today led by their winemaker Almudena Alberca.
Made from Tempranillo grapes manually harvested from 60 year old vines at an altitude, then onto a double selection table, followed by destemming and a light crushing. The fermentation is at a controlled temperature with maceration lasting for 25-30 days. Rests in French oak barrels of 225 liters capacity for 15 months, along with a minimum of 20 months in the bottle.
Intense ruby colour, with on the nose a combination of ripe black fruits, sweet spices and soft toasted with light notes of tobacco. Fine notes of leather, tobacco and mocha can be discovered and savoured, accompanied by round, silky and complex tannins, with a long and delicate finish.
Ideal for wood roasted pig, lamb chops accompanied by red piquillo peppers and other chunky veg or a veggie smokey cheese amd ‘pepperoni’ pizza
