Formally know as La Mannella until renamed Cortonesi in 2017 , the etsate is now run by Tomasso Cortonesi and his siblings after taking over from his father Marco. Cortonesi produces two distinct Brunellos each year, the first borrows the name La Mannella and the fruit comes from the nearby Montosoli cru, whilst the second is a special selection known as Poggiarelli.
La Mannella comes from a vineyard site located not too far from Montosoli, at the foot of the hill where the town of Montalcino stands.
La Mannella 2016 offers simply incredible value for money from Cortonesi. Here, fruit is sourced from the La Mannella vineyard close to Montosoli, one of the coolest growing areas in the appellation at moderate 350 meters above sea level. The results are outstanding.
Delicate and subtle at first so let it breathe to reveal dark berry fruit, rose petal and crushed stone. This wine remains direct and accessible with a medium-weight approach backed by fine and structured tannins.
Great with Tuscan sausages and beans, wild boar with chunky veg, Tuscan-style steak, ideally sourced from the indigenous Chianina beef, parmesan or pecorino cheese or aged cheese, or beef dumplings
