Don Cristóbal 1492 was established in 1998 and started its own wine production with the 2001 harvest. It is run by Argentinian Eduardo Lapania with his son Cristobal as CEO and the backing of Belgian family Vandenbalack.

Vines planted 935 meters above sea level. The soils at the base of the Andes tend to be young and alluvial with a high proportion of sand and loam and are low in organic material. The sandy loam is underlain with river rocks offering good drainage.
20% of the wine was aged in French oak barrels for 9 months.
Herbaceous with red fruit and smoky notes on the nose. The palate is simple and correct with crunchy strawberry flavours and low tannins.
