In 1918, the year Nelson Mandela was born, South African wine farmers founded KWV (Ko-operatiewe Wijnbouwers Vereniging van Zuid-Afrika). The aim was to stabilise a young, but promising, industry.
The Mentors range showcases the diversity of soils and climate in South Africa. The grapes used to craft these wines are mentored from each wines conception, through specific site selection, treatment in the vineyards, and special cellar care at the helm.
Only 1000 sequentially numbered bottles of the wine have been crafted, making it a collectors absolute must-have. The wine spent 18 months in 70% new French oak barrels. This wine can be enjoyed now, but cellaring for a further 8 years will be rewarded.
This full bodied wine explodes with blackberries, freshly ground black pepper and plums with hints of lavender, blueberries and vanilla. The palate is rich and fruity with prominent fruit sweetness. The grippy tannin structure is well integrated and delivers an intense, lasting finish.
