In 1918, the year Nelson Mandela was born, South African wine farmers founded KWV (Ko-operatiewe Wijnbouwers Vereniging van Zuid-Afrika). The aim was to stabilise a young, but promising, industry.
The Mentors range showcases the diversity of soils and climate in South Africa. The grapes used to craft these wines are mentored from each wines conception, through specific site selection, treatment in the vineyards, and special cellar care at the helm.
This concentrated and layered wine has aromas of ripe dark fruit, blackcurrant and dark cherry, with nuances of black olive. Fruit sweetness is accompanied by bold structure and fleshy tannins, and adds to a well-integrated palate that delivers a lasting finish. Serve with meaty ravioli, lamb with honey and thyme, spicy stews.
The wine spent 18 months in 70 % new French oak barrels.
Try with lamb chops, lamb & a redcurrant jelly burger, sirloin steak, or spicy marinated halloumi cheese with blackened pepper kebabs
