John Worontschak is an Australian born and trained winemaker who came to England in the mid 1980’s after honing his craft in Australia, California and France.
In 1988 at the Thames Valley Vineyard in Berkshire he established a contract winemaking company receiving grapes from all over the country and made award-winning wines of a uniquely outstanding quality.
John was one of the pioneers in the making of quality English sparkling wines but it was English still wines that were his passion and he set out to make a world class premium English still wine. In 2010 the first Litmus Element 20 was made.
The 2014 growing season was sensational. Perfect flowering conditions followed by August rains and a warm September led to early ripening of a good crop in the coolness of early October.
The 2014 Element 20 departs from the usual blend of Bacchus and Chardonnay consisting of 35% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Gris and 30% Pinot Blanc. Fermented separately in one to five-year-old French oak barriques the wine was left on full lees for eleven months before bottling.
Complex, mature, elegant and stylish, this silky, rich, full bodied wine has a balancing acidity that will ensure that even further complexity is achieved in years to follow.
Harvest Dates Chardonnay 16th, Pinot Blanc 18th and Pinot Gris 23rd of October 2014
