In 1996 Telmo Rodriguez & Pablo Eguzkiza arrived in the mountains of La Axarquía where they produced 2 barrels of its historic Moscatel.

The great wines of the past were often sweet wines: Tokaji, Sauternes, Vin Santos, Madeiras, Late Harvest Rieslings, Vins de Paille… all associated with the great wine regions of the Old World. In Spain as well, the Tostadillos, raisin wines and Supurados had their moment and faded. In 1990’s they decided to revive what no doubt had once been the most important of all: the Mountain Wine of Málaga.

Both faced difficult vineyards, almost impossible, which had miraculously survived thanks to the tradition of raisin production. Men continued to cultivate grapes in ravines and canyons, tirelessly working the slopes of the Montes de Málaga, while the women produced the raisins, giving loving care to the Moscatel grapes until they became ‘the best raisins in the world’. They threw ourselves in with great enthusiasm but scant knowledge about how to produce ‘Mountain’ with lines from Shakespeare and Alexandre Dumas resounding in their dreams. And, remembered that Hugh Johnson once said that old ‘Mountain Wine’ was the best wine he’d ever had!

Molino Real – MR 2019 is a wine that rescues the historic natural sweet wines from Malaga, called Mountain Wines. And therefore, is the gateway to the historic natural sweet wines of Malaga. Wine made with the little must obtained after pressing the golden raisins of the old vineyards of Cómpeta. 100% Muscat of Alexandria from very steep vineyards facing south and west, located at around 550 meters above sea level. Shallow, stony and fine textured soils developed from Paleozoic schists. 100% bushvines. Two harvests, manual in boxes; one from the vineyard to the drying place and another one from there to the winery.

Elaboration and ageing in small stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts and spontaneous stop of the fermentation. Ageing in stainless steel tanks for 10 months.

Heaven with pâté, blue cheeses – the stinker the better, and pork chops and mango salsa or chicken teriyaki skewers are awesome and so is honey-glazed chicken, or buffalo chicken wings! Bring it on!
