Simon Hackett is a renowned winemaker in Australia. Old vines tend to give you much more mineral-rich wines because the roots go very, very deep searching out water and minerals as the vine ages. So you are getting a wine that’s got ancient minerals in it.
Old Vine Grenache is made from 100% Grenache aged eight months in second fill 225 litre American oak barrels.
Aromas of summer berries, with floral lifts to add complexity. Layers of plush ripe berry fruit soften the palate, firm acid plus toasty vanilla oak add structure. This wine is happily fruit dominated – it fills the corners of your mouth.
Vintaged from low yielding old Grenache vines, this classic red wine displays a vibrant depth of purple tinges on the meniscus. The perfumed lift on the bouquet is complimented by the full, fine palate which is enhanced by maturation in American Oak hogsheads and a light tannin finish. Although drinking well now, this wine will definitely improve with further bottle maturation.
Try with slow cooked beef brisket, duck and orange, or a chunky veg and chickpea tagine
