The Winery by Laneberg Wine is Tyneside’s first Urban Winery. They handcraft wine from grapes grown in England with minimal intervention to let the true character of the grapes shine through.
Stefanija 2020 is The Winery’s newest rosé wine, perfect for the Spring and Summer months.
Stefanija is named after Elise’s grandma, who moved to the UK in 1947 from Latvia after the war, where she met Vilnus (also Latvian) and settled in Newcastle. Bringing up three sons Ray (Elise’s dad), Ivor and Derek (Liam’s dad). She is missed very much by the family and they hope that she would have been very proud of what they have all achieved, making wine up here.
Made from 75% Pinot Noir from Somborne Valley vineyards, Hampshire. Harvested 22nd September 2020. And 25% Seyval Blanc from Walton Brook vineyard, Leicestershire.
The grapes were crushed and destemmed, then pressed in hydraulic basket press, to get light colour from the Pinot Noir skins.
Stefanija is a pale rosé with subtle wild strawberry and lime flavours, it is a perfect aperitif or paired with local fish and seafood dishes, especially from Craster!
